Best Plywood Brands in India 2026 — Prices & Buying Guide

Best plywood brands in India 2026 with prices and buying guide

The best plywood brands in India for 2026 are CenturyPly (#1 for quality and availability), Greenply (#2 for eco-friendly options), Kitply (#3 for marine-grade), and Austin Plywood (#4 for budget projects). Plywood prices range from Rs 45-180 per square foot depending on grade, thickness, and brand.

We've been stocking and selling plywood at our Bangalore store for over 15 years, and in that time we've handled thousands of sheets across every major brand. We've seen which brands hold up after 5 years in a Bangalore kitchen, which ones delaminate within months, and which ones offer genuine value for money. This guide is based on that real-world experience — not manufacturer claims or marketing brochures.

How We Ranked These Brands

We evaluated plywood brands on five criteria that matter most to homeowners building or renovating their homes:

  • -Quality consistency: Does every sheet meet the same standard, or is it a lottery? We checked layering uniformity, core quality, and surface finish across multiple batches.
  • -Price-to-performance ratio: More expensive doesn't always mean better. We compared actual durability against the premium charged.
  • -Availability: Can you easily find the grade and thickness you need in Bangalore and across India? Some brands have patchy distribution.
  • -Warranty and after-sales: Is the warranty just on paper, or do they actually honour claims? We've tested this with multiple brands.
  • -Real-world performance: How does the plywood hold up after 3-5 years in Indian conditions — humidity, termites, and daily kitchen use?

1. CenturyPly — India's Most Trusted Plywood

CenturyPly consistently ranks as the number one plywood brand in India, and our experience confirms why. Their quality control is the best in the industry — you rarely get a bad sheet. The Club Prime range (BWR grade) is the workhorse product that goes into most modular kitchens and wardrobes we supply material for, and the feedback from carpenters and homeowners is overwhelmingly positive.

Their product range covers every need: Sainik (economy MR grade, great for rental properties and budget furniture), Club (mid-range MR with better core quality), Club Prime (BWR grade, the sweet spot for most homes), and Marine (BWP grade for bathrooms and wet areas). The Architect Ply line is their premium offering with superior surface finish for high-end interiors.

CenturyPly prices in 2026: MR grade (Sainik) Rs 45-55/sqft, BWR grade (Club Prime) Rs 75-100/sqft, Marine/BWP Rs 110-150/sqft for 19mm thickness. These are retail prices in Bangalore — bulk orders through dealers like VarNa Homes will be 8-12% lower.

Why we rank it #1: Best-in-class quality consistency, widest distribution network, genuine termite and borer treatment, and a warranty that they actually honour. The only downside is the price — CenturyPly is typically 10-15% more expensive than comparable products from other brands.

2. Greenply — The Eco-Friendly Choice

Greenply is India's second-largest plywood manufacturer and has carved out a strong position as the environmentally responsible choice. Their plywood is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, meaning the timber comes from sustainably managed forests. For homeowners who care about where their materials come from, this matters.

Beyond the green credentials, Greenply's product quality is genuinely excellent. Their Green Club BWR range is our second most recommended product after CenturyPly Club Prime. The core construction is tight and uniform, the surface takes laminates well, and the termite resistance treatment (they call it "zero emission" technology) is effective. We've seen Green Club BWR sheets in kitchens that are 6-7 years old with zero delamination.

Greenply prices in 2026: MR grade (Green) Rs 42-52/sqft, BWR grade (Green Club) Rs 70-95/sqft, Marine/BWP (Optima) Rs 105-145/sqft for 19mm thickness. Greenply is typically 5-8% cheaper than CenturyPly for the same grade, making it a strong value proposition.

Why we rank it #2: FSC certification, competitive pricing, excellent quality in the BWR and Marine ranges, and strong termite resistance. The MR grade range is slightly less consistent than CenturyPly's Sainik, which is why it doesn't take the top spot overall.

3. Kitply — Marine-Grade Specialist

Kitply has built its reputation on one thing: marine-grade plywood. If you need plywood that will survive constant water exposure — think bathroom vanity cabinets, outdoor furniture, kitchen sink base units, or balcony storage — Kitply's Marine range is arguably the best in India. Their marine plywood uses phenol formaldehyde resin throughout (not just on the surface layers) which gives it genuine waterproof properties.

We particularly recommend Kitply for bathroom furniture projects. Bangalore bathrooms with poor ventilation can be brutally humid, and we've seen MR and even some BWR grade plywood swell and delaminate in such conditions within 2-3 years. Kitply Marine in the same conditions holds up for 8-10 years easily.

Kitply prices in 2026: MR grade Rs 40-50/sqft, BWR grade Rs 65-90/sqft, Marine/BWP Rs 100-140/sqft for 19mm thickness. Their marine grade is competitively priced compared to CenturyPly and Greenply marine options.

Why we rank it #3: Best marine plywood in the market, excellent for wet areas, competitive marine-grade pricing. However, their MR and BWR ranges are not as consistent as CenturyPly or Greenply, and availability can be patchy in some Bangalore localities.

4. Austin Plywood — Budget-Friendly Quality

Austin Plywood is a Bangalore-based brand that has quietly built a strong following in South India. For homeowners working with a tight budget — rental property furniture, children's room wardrobes that will be replaced in a few years, or storage solutions — Austin offers surprisingly good quality at prices that are 15-25% below the national brands.

Their BWR grade plywood, in particular, punches above its weight. The core quality is decent, the surface takes laminates without issues, and the termite treatment is adequate for indoor use. We wouldn't recommend Austin for high-end kitchen cabinets or premium wardrobes where you need a flawless finish, but for utility furniture and budget-conscious projects, it's a smart choice.

Austin Plywood prices in 2026: MR grade Rs 35-45/sqft, BWR grade Rs 55-75/sqft, Marine/BWP Rs 80-110/sqft for 19mm thickness. These are some of the most competitive prices you'll find for ISI-marked plywood.

Why we rank it #4: Best value for budget projects, local availability in Bangalore is excellent, ISI certified. Downsides include limited presence outside South India, slightly less consistent surface quality, and a thinner product range compared to national brands.

5. National Plywood — Regional Favourite

National Plywood is another regional brand that has earned a loyal following, particularly in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Their Platinum BWR range offers solid quality at mid-range pricing. The plywood has good dimensional stability — it doesn't warp easily, which is a common complaint with cheaper brands in Bangalore's variable humidity.

National Plywood prices in 2026: MR grade Rs 38-48/sqft, BWR grade Rs 60-80/sqft, Marine Rs 85-120/sqft for 19mm thickness. A good middle-ground option if CenturyPly and Greenply are stretching your budget but you want something more reliable than the cheapest options in the market.

Plywood Grades Explained — MR, BWR, BWP/Marine

Understanding plywood grades is crucial because using the wrong grade in the wrong place is the single most common mistake homeowners make. Here's a clear breakdown of what each grade means and where to use it.

GradeFull NameIS StandardWater ResistanceBest For
MRMoisture ResistantIS 303Handles mild humidity, not waterBedroom wardrobes, bookshelves, living room furniture
BWRBoiling Water ResistantIS 303 (BWR)Withstands moisture and steamKitchen cabinets, utility areas, humid rooms
BWP / MarineBoiling Water ProofIS 710Fully waterproof, survives submersionBathrooms, outdoor furniture, balconies, sink units

A common misconception: "BWR plywood is waterproof." It's not. BWR can handle steam and humidity — like the conditions inside a kitchen — but it will eventually delaminate if constantly wet. For any area where plywood will come into direct contact with water, always use BWP/Marine grade. Read our detailed BWR vs BWP plywood comparison for more.

Plywood Price Comparison Table (2026)

Here's a comprehensive price comparison across all major brands for standard 8x4 feet sheets in 19mm thickness. Prices are in Rs per square foot and reflect retail rates in Bangalore.

BrandMR Grade (Rs/sqft)BWR Grade (Rs/sqft)Marine/BWP (Rs/sqft)
CenturyPlyRs 45-55Rs 75-100Rs 110-150
GreenplyRs 42-52Rs 70-95Rs 105-145
KitplyRs 40-50Rs 65-90Rs 100-140
Austin PlywoodRs 35-45Rs 55-75Rs 80-110
National PlywoodRs 38-48Rs 60-80Rs 85-120

These prices are for 19mm thickness (the most common for furniture). Thinner sheets — 6mm, 9mm, 12mm — cost proportionally less. Also note that prices vary by 5-10% depending on the dealer, location, and whether you're buying single sheets or in bulk. At VarNa Homes, we offer trade pricing on bulk orders of 20+ sheets.

Which Plywood for Which Application?

This is the practical section — a quick-reference guide for choosing the right plywood grade and brand for every application in your home.

Kitchen Cabinets

Use BWR grade plywood, 18mm thickness for the carcass. CenturyPly Club Prime or Greenply Green Club BWR are our top recommendations. For the base unit near the sink, consider upgrading to Marine grade as water splashes are inevitable. Pair with quality interior design and hardware for a kitchen that lasts. See our modular kitchen cost guide for complete budget planning.

Bathroom Vanity and Storage

Marine/BWP grade is non-negotiable for bathrooms. MR and even BWR plywood will swell and rot in the constant humidity of an Indian bathroom, especially in Bangalore where ventilation in bathrooms is often poor. Kitply Marine or CenturyPly Marine are our go-to recommendations. Use 18mm for the carcass and ensure all edges are sealed with edge banding to prevent water ingress.

Bedroom Wardrobes

MR grade plywood is perfectly adequate for bedroom wardrobes. Bedrooms in Bangalore don't experience the moisture levels that kitchens and bathrooms do, so spending extra on BWR grade is unnecessary unless the wardrobe is in a ground-floor room with known dampness issues. CenturyPly Club or Greenply Green in 18mm thickness will serve well for 10+ years.

Exterior and Balcony Furniture

Marine/BWP grade only. Even then, ensure the plywood is finished with exterior-grade paint or laminate and that all edges are properly sealed. Bangalore's monsoon rains will destroy any unprotected plywood within a single season, regardless of grade. For outdoor seating or storage, consider Kitply Marine with a polyurethane topcoat.

How to Check Plywood Quality Before Buying

Fake and substandard plywood is a real problem in India. Here are four practical tests you can do at the dealer's shop before buying.

1. The Weight Test

Good quality 19mm BWR plywood should weigh approximately 35-40 kg per 8x4 sheet. If it feels significantly lighter, the core is likely filled with low-density filler wood instead of proper hardwood veneers. Pick up the sheet and compare it with sheets from other brands — the difference in weight is immediately noticeable.

2. The Layering Check

Look at the edge (cross-section) of the plywood. Good quality plywood has uniform, tightly bonded layers with no visible gaps, voids, or overlapping sections. Each layer should be of similar thickness. If you see large gaps between layers or layers of wildly different thicknesses, the plywood is substandard. A 19mm sheet should have 11-13 layers.

3. The Edge Quality Test

Run your hand along the edges of the sheet. The edges should feel smooth and uniform. If the edges are rough, splintery, or show gaps between layers that you can push your fingernail into, the plywood is poorly manufactured. Good plywood can be cut cleanly without layers separating at the cut edge.

4. The IS Marking Verification

Every genuine ISI-certified plywood sheet has markings stamped or printed on it: the IS standard number (IS 303 or IS 710), the grade (MR, BWR, or Marine), the manufacturer's name and licence number, and the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) logo. If any of these are missing or blurred beyond readability, be suspicious. You can verify the licence number on the BIS website. Buy from authorised dealers like VarNa Homes to avoid counterfeit products entirely.

Our Recommendation — What to Buy

If budget is not the primary constraint, go with CenturyPly Club Prime (BWR) for kitchen cabinets and CenturyPly Club (MR) for wardrobes and bedroom furniture. This combination gives you the best quality with minimum hassle.

If you want the best value for money, Greenply Green Club (BWR) offers 90% of CenturyPly's quality at 5-10% lower prices. For bathrooms and wet areas, Kitply Marine is hard to beat.

For budget projects where longevity is less critical — rental flats, temporary storage, children's rooms that will be redone in a few years — Austin Plywood BWR gives you ISI-certified quality at prices that won't break the bank.
